Several months ago, our team sent a survey to over 400 of our closest neighbors in Goose Creek. Our two part survey was simple: "What event would you like to see in your neighborhood?" and "Why?" From all of the possible events, the main answer was "Block Party" and the main reason, "To meet my neighbors."
If the Gospel reigns in our neighborhood, one of the biggest areas of change is genuine community. Residents of this small neighborhood are somehow isolated from each other and have a real need for friendship. We hoped to be a small part of the solution.
Our first block party was a huge success. With several vendors, food trucks and inflatables, we partied with over 300 of our Goose Creek neighbors. Many were curious about Creekside Church and how they could be involved, but the highlight of the night involved several of our team members engaging with lost friends and neighbors. We were able to meet two Mormon roommates, Mike and Adam. Both were really open to us and we even spent some time at a local barbecue joint afterwards. Our team is looking forward to building on these initial contacts from the party.
Without the support of the Janie Chapman State Missions Offering, this event would not have been possible. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to introduce Creekside Church to our neighborhood! More importantly, thank you for giving us the opportunity to start meaningful relationships for the Gospel of Jesus. We look forward to building on the success of this first event.
